Los Naranjas Field Hockey Team Madrid

Anyone interested in playing field hockey? We are a mixed, international team playing non-league games every weekend followed by beers in the sun. All skill levels welcome, including beginners. We have spare sticks and washable shin pads, please let us know if you need them! Days and times will depend on when the field is available but generally we play on either Saturday or Sunday around Midday.

OUR HISTORY:
Founded around 2003 on a warm Madrid afternoon a group of international and Spanish hockey enthusiasts and lovers founded: Los Naranjas after discovering there was no suitable club for them to join where they could play casual / non-league hockey.

Initiator and Founder Lindl Taylor from Australia, who comes out of a family of league and national team hockey players from Australia and at that time was working as the chef-cook for the Dutch ambassador in Spain, got in contact with the Madrid Hockey Federation and managed to get us an available and left over slot at their pitch to play hockey for an hour or two on either Saturdays or Sundays. Together with Jurgen Doctor, an expat banker from the Netherlands, they formed the base of Los Naranjas, a casual team in Madrid.

From there on, more and more hockey lovers and even ex-league and Olympic team players joined Los Naranjas for some good casual hockey on weekends in El Pardo, in front lawn of the Kings private palace.

During the years we have had different organizers:

  • Lindl
  • Serge
  • Ruth
  • Ginger

Currently: Hannah

Every second year we organized a mixed tournament around the end of the regular hockey season. For many years we co-organized tournaments with the “Lisbon Casuals” in Portugal and soon we will pick up our tournament in Madrid again with mixed teams invited.
